Peter was born in Sydney in 1943 and after leaving school, did the Mechanical Engineering Certificate
course and became a draughtsman. He moved to Mittagong in 1985 to attend the Sturt
School for Wood. This is a full time course for one year and is very intensive. It embraces all aspects of
woodwork and is extremely rewarding. At the end of this course, Peter continued work as a
draughtsman and did woodwork part time.
In 2005 Peter was given an old lathe and started turning wood. After purchasing some good quality
turning tools, and becoming more proficient, he did a couple of short courses in
wood turning and became hooked. After deciding that this was what he really wanted to
do, he purchased a much better lathe.
Peter also has an interest in calligraphy and sometimes uses celtic knotwork for decoration
in calligraphic works. After some experimenting, he has discovered
that this can be used quite effectively with wood turning.
He is sure that these two crafts will keep him out of mischief for the rest of his life.
